How did you find Lagree Fitness and why does it resonate with you?

About 13 years ago, my friend Jessica (who is also a fellow Motivate instructor) took me to her cousin’s brand new studio. I had no idea it was Lagree and no idea what i was doing! I just knew that Jessica looked amazing and I wanted to try it. After my first class I was hooked and started going regularly. I loved how every class was challenging and fun.  The equipment was a lot different 13 years ago, but the method was the same. Lagree has absolutely changed the way I look at fitness. I appreciate the process my body goes through in every class. The method is precise in tempo, resistance, duration, intensity etc. and when you combine all the elements, you get the perfect full body workout. I also love that it is safe enough to do daily, so I know I’ll get stronger without straining or injuring my body.  What resonates with me the most is how challenging it is, but how doable it is as well. Everyone of all fitness levels can take part and get such amazing benefits, both physical and mental.

How would you describe your teaching style?

I definitely describe myself as your personal Cheerleader. My goal is to engage everyone to take part in class by taking from my energy and giving energy to others. We are all in it together, and we’ll get through it together. In my mind, I’m taking class with you, and it’s hard, and challenging, but we’ll finish and feel so accomplished after.

What’s your favorite post-workout nosh?

My body is a big protein craver, so I like to run to Whole Foods and get their peanut butter and greens shake, followed by a nice big custom meade salad.

If you could give one tip to your clients, what would it be?

I have two!

  1. Keep coming back! The first few classes are very challenging because you are learning something new. After that first learning curve is over, you will be able to dig a little deeper and get to the meaty and shaky part of the classes. That’s where you’ll make those big changes.

  2. Listen to your instructors so you keep learning. We know that we throw a lot at you in terms of move names, cues, positioning, etc. and it might not always make sense the first few times. Try to keep an ear out in every class because they’ll create a way to communicate it to YOU so YOU can achieve it. You’ll also learn ways to modify and intensify when you want and that’s important for your progress.

How did you find Lagree Fitness and why does it resonate with you?

I found Lagree through my cousin and fellow instructor, Jessica.  She promised me happiness which I had been searching for after 15 years as a restaurant GM.  She was not joking!  After my first class, I was hooked.  Being a former dancer, I found Lagree to be so effective.  My body was on fire, reacting in ways it has not done since high school. I had been struggling to find a workout that kept my body in shape and my mind stimulated. I love the full body workout in only 45 mins too. Lagree makes me happy and happy people are more effective in life!

How would you describe your teaching style?

I strive to be effective as a trainer while offering support and encouragement. I want my clients to leave feeling as though they have accomplished something amazing while feeling great about themselves.

What's your favorite post-workout nosh?

Lots and lots of water as well as my Arbonne Protein shakes!

If you were to give one workout tip to your clients, what would it be?

My one workout tip is to never give up. During class, it can get tough!  It takes that inner strength to power through the workout and achieve the ultimate goal. Ohhh and bring a towel because you're gonna sweat!

HOW DID YOU FIND LAGREE FITNESS AND WHY DOES IT RESONATE WITH YOU?

My friend opened a Lagree studio in Berkeley about a year and a half ago and she asked if I wanted to get certified to teach at her studio. I was skeptical because I’m more of an “outdoorsy workout” kind of person. However, about three minutes into the first class I took, I was hooked! My core was on fire and I knew Lagree was the workout I’d been looking for. I started taking taking classes regularly and loved what it did for my body.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEACHING STYLE?

I strive to make all my classes challenging and unique. I want clients leaving class feeling really good about the workout they just conquered!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE POST-WORKOUT NOSH?

I usually go for protein after a workout! I am currently hooked on Isagenix shakes.

IF YOU WERE TO GIVE ONE WORKOUT TIP TO YOUR CLIENTS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

It doesn’t matter what your state of physical fitness is. Lagree is for all levels! Your body is stronger than you think it is. Come to class even on the days you don’t want to and don’t be afraid to ask your instructors questions!

HOW DID YOU FIND LAGREE FITNESS AND WHY DOES IT RESONATE WITH YOU?

I thought I was going to a Pilates studio but it turned out to be a Lagree fitness studio and I was immediately hooked after the first class! The classes were challenging and helped me get stronger physically and mentally.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEACHING STYLE?

Challenging but fun... bring a towel. :)

HOW DID YOU FIND LAGREE FITNESS AND WHY DOES IT RESONATE WITH YOU?

I've been in fitness for almost a decade and, a few years back, I got invited to a little studio in Ohio, to train their staff in indoor cycling. They also offered Lagree, which I tried out and got absolutely hooked on! Once I started taking classes consistently (3x/week), not only did my body start to look leaner and more toned than I had seen with previous workout styles, but I was also able to rehab old injuries, like my shoulder. I never thought I would be able to do a straight-leg pushup again, but now I can do them.. to a slow four count! ;) I appreciate that this method is all about what you bring to the table, as fas as how slow you take each exercise, and that you can always take it to the next level. It's the ultimate mind/body challenge, with exceptional results.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEACHING STYLE?

I once had a student describe my classes as, "challenging, but not demoralizing; a friendly push," and that's pretty much me, in a nutshell. I'm a huge dork at heart, and I've learned that part of what helps those around us be authentic is being vulnerable yourself. You will see me make mistakes, shake in moves next to you (when I'm taking class), and beyond, but I will always try to get both of us to evolve. I love growth-minded workouts and people!

rxbar-1.jpg

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE POST-WORKOUT NOSH?

Protein, of course! But on a more specific level, I am obsessed with the Chocolate Sea Salt RX Bars, or the Chocolate Supreme protein shake from Earthbar (swap the banana for blueberries, for less sugar). O.M.G. Becky.

IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE WORKOUT TIP TO YOUR CLIENTS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Show up on the days you don't want to. Those days not only keep you accountable, as far as your exercise routine, but they also strengthen your mental resolve. If I'm feeling beat down or exhausted, and I just get myself onto that Megaformer, I always walk out 45 minutes later, knowing that I've still got it. You do, too. Just show up.

HOW DID YOU FIND LAGREE FITNESS AND WHY DOES IT RESONATE WITH YOU?

Fellow instructor Jessica and I have known each other for a long time, when one of the first Lagree studios opened in LA she introduced me to it years ago we would commute down from Valencia just to workout. Now we are so lucky to have an amazing studio in our Valley! It resonates with me because it’s the best workout I’ve ever done. I love that we squeeze so much into just 45 minutes. So many other workouts you waste time with equipment and setting things up and putting things away etc. Who has time for that? At Motivate, you get a full-body workout and you're in and out. I love the challenge and that the classes still kill me after all theses years.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEACHING STYLE?

I like to keep things light and fun but challenging. I want to be a part of your fitness journey and help you to achieve your goals and aspire to be the best part of your day!  I know life can be stressful so I hope to help people have some fun and get in some good work. I love seeing people make time for fitness, it’s so important for a healthy and happy life.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE POST-WORKOUT NOSH?

That’s tough! I love the chicken buffalo bowl at Eat Real Cafe. It has antibiotic free chicken with organic quinoa, homemade buffalo sauce, homemade ranch and celery. Yum!

IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE WORKOUT TIP TO YOUR CLIENTS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Hang in there! Keep at it and don’t underestimate your own strength. You’re stronger than you know and often our brain tells us we can’t do things we actually can do!  Keep working hard and you’ll be so happy you did. You really are worth it! Regular exercise helps your body to fight diseases and helps you to feel happy. You deserve that!

HOW DID YOU FIND LAGREE FITNESS AND WHY DOES IT RESONATE WITH YOU?

I learned about Lagree through my cousin.  She started her first studio in Hollywood and I went to support and tried her class.  I thought it was so amazing and even though I lived in Santa Clarita I would make the drive down twice a week to get my butt kicked.  I saw pretty quickly the difference it made in my body, and I was in love!  I knew this would be life long love of mine but didn’t know at the time I would get the privilege of instructing.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEACHING STYLE?

I would have to say that that I am serious about the effectiveness of my clients' workout but I'm definitely not super serious by nature.  I try to make this already difficult experience a little less with some playful banter to help keep your mind off the burn!

Humbled-  I feel so humbled by the love, dedication and appreciation for each and every one of my clients that come to see me for a great workout. It feels amazing to help others and see their excitement as they progress towards their goals and a healthier lifestyle. These classes are never easy; to help clients push the limits of their bodies and get stronger despite the challenge is beyond rewarding and I am so grateful and humbled that I get to share that with them.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE POST-WORKOUT NOSH?

Tea Poached Salmon with Fragrant Brown Rice.jpg

Oh, man this is tough. I love food and am not a very good eat-the-same-thing-everyday type of person.  I love ground turkey and rice or on a bed of spinach.  I also love poached salmon and rice. If I can’t get to one of these meals I will reach for my RX Bars (chocolate sea salt is my fave).  Those are just a couple of my go-to foods post workout (unless it's in the morning, then I love oatmeal with fruit or eggs with hash-browns. :) )

IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE WORKOUT TIP TO YOUR CLIENTS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Never be afraid to try new things and reach new goals.  There is always a way to modify things if its too hard, but give your self the chance to try something new!  You might be surprised as to how strong you are getting.  Last but not least, the slower the better in every move and EMBRACE the SHAKE!

HOW DID YOU FIND LAGREE FITNESS AND WHY DOES IT RESONATE WITH YOU?

I found Lagree after trying many other types of workouts, everything from barre classes to CrossFit.  I gained a lot of endurance and strength with CrossFit but my body just couldn't handle the heavy weightlifting after a while.  I came across Motivate in doing some research and figured it couldn't be any harder than CrossFit so I gave it a try.  Man, was I wrong!  After that very first session I discovered new muscles that I never knew I had and didn't have to throw heavy weights above my head in order to find them!  I loved every minute of being pushed to my max, not only by the trainer, but mentally for myself. With each class I found myself pushing harder, holding longer and embracing that shake.  I love how much stronger I am now as a result and also enjoy being able to work out more efficiently and much more safely at Motivate.  I always leave with a sense of accomplishment!

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TEACHING STYLE?

Intense and Pushing Limits.  I know within each of us, we have the ability to go harder and push farther than we even realize or allow ourselves to do.  We often stop right at that moment where we think it's too hard, not knowing that change is just over the precipice if we can fight to get through the discomfort.  As a trainer, I want to be able to bring that out in my clients while being safe and encouraging.

banana-protein-panckes-15.jpg

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE POST-WORKOUT NOSH?

Protein banana pancakes!  Super simple- 2 (or 3!) eggs and 1 banana, mashed and whisked all together, fry it in a pan.  I'll follow that up with a tuna, kale and broccoli slaw with quinoa and sunflower seeds, drizzled with a red wine/olive oil vinaigrette.

IF YOU WERE TO GIVE ONE WORKOUT TIP TO YOUR CLIENTS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Embrace the shake!  Endure and fight through because there’s strength on the other side.

How did you find Lagree Fitness and why does it resonate with you?

Freshman year of college I went to a tiny university in Salem, Oregon.  I learned very quickly that I am not a small-town girl.  Every weekend I would drive an hour north to explore Portland.  I have always loved group fitness classes, and a Lagree studio happened to be in the vicinity of my stomping grounds.  I tried it out, and I was instantly hooked.  The most appealing part was the combination of high intensity and low impact.  I have a bad knee from years of tennis, so low impact is crucial for me.  It is so satisfying to get my heart rate pumping and muscles shaking with the comfort of knowing that this workout is sustainable on my joints.  For the rest of my year in Oregon, I would drive an hour each way just to take Lagree classes.  Then I transferred to Occidental and found that wonderful feeling once again with Motivate.

How would you describe your teaching style?

SERIOUS.  Though I love to joke around, I really want my classes to be effective and efficient.  Workout smarter, not harder!

GRATEFUL.  First, I am so inspired by each of my students for taking the time out of their busy lives to focus on their physical and mental health, and I want my students to know how proud I am.  Second, I am thankful to be part of each of my students' lives, even if for a short moment.

INTROSPECTIVE.  I want to help my students get lost in their sensations--the deep breathing, muscle fatigue, and mental challenges.  Once you embrace these feelings, you can more effectively (and safely) challenge yourself.

What's your favorite post workout nosh?

Rice, beans, and a leafy green!  I could eat rice and beans, pretty much, for every meal, every day for the rest of my life.  I usually go for brown rice, lentils, and kale with a splash of lime juice and olive oil.

If you were to give one workout tip to your clients, what would it be?

Don't beat yourself up!  We can't be on our A-game every workout.  If you're having an off-day, it just means you're human. ;)

Check out Eva's classes on Saturday afternoons at 4:00 and 5:00 pm!

How did you find Lagree Fitness and why does it resonate with you?

My coworker told me that if I liked Pilates I would love Lagree. She convinced me to go with her and check it out. I fell in love with Lagree that night. I signed up for a membership and went back the next day. I became super passionate about Lagree and knew I wanted to teach it almost immediately.

Lagree gave me back my pre-baby body, relieved stress, and made me feel more confident. (Not easy to come by as a new mom!).

How would you describe your teaching style?

I'm a passionate instructor who wants everyone in the room to experience Lagree as I know it (it's life changing). I want you to experience the moves the way I do (the more efficiently you do the moves the more effectively you will change).

I understand sometimes taking a break and taking a sip of water; the workouts are challenging. But it's about getting back into a move ASAP to maximize your results. I love to remind people to smile and to be proud of the hard work they are putting in.  Love is the key, and I want clients to find love for themselves and their bodies.

What's your favorite post workout nosh?

I tend to juice as often as possible but It can become tedious. My easiest go to is...a handful of kale, grapes and a squeeze of lemon. Simple and delicious.

If you were to give one workout tip to your clients, what would it be?

Be kind to yourself... Comparison is the thief of joy.  Sometimes we look around the room and don't think we are doing a good enough job.  Everyone was once new and started right where you are.  Be patient, the moves will come.  Be kind, your mind deserves it.  Be proud, you're already amazing.

TRAINER SPOTLIGHT | Katie H

How did you find Lagree fitness and why does it resonate with you?

I found Lagree fitness through the help of Lacey Martin, fellow instructor (and friend) at MOTIVATE. She was one of my very first pilates instructors and her passion for the workout was inspiring. The concept of muscle fatigue and idea behind slow resistance training not only made sense, but really changed my whole outlook on fitness in a positive way. It might sound silly, but I think that the method has helped me become a better student, teacher, and better person through listening and understanding. Being able to helpstudents work towards their goals and truly understand why things like "shaky legs" are a good thing, is awesome!

How would you describe your teaching style?

You'll get my energetic personality with lots of positive encouragement. I know that the workout is hard. I want my students to realize that, then push themselves past it and come out stronger, feeling better. With me, you'll get a lot of help on form, an idea of what muscles should be used/felt, and a lot of cheesy Katie sayings that hopefully get you through the move longer. My style is to motivate and leave you feeling better than when you started class.

What’s your favorite post-workout nosh?

Ohhh, this one changes just about every few weeks, but currently my top snack are the Mint Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter RX bars. For beverage, my go-to is a chocolate Vega protein shake with frozen bananas and almond butter. SO GOOD.

If you were to give one workout tip to your clients, what would it be?

KEEP SHOWING UP. That's half of the battle. We all have the back and fourth of "to workout or not to workout." The days when you're the most tired, stressed, or feeling down are the days you need it the most. Don't give up on yourself. Try to remember how good the post-workout sweaty feeling was, and let that help keep you on track.

TRAINER SPOTLIGHT | Keona B

How did you find Lagree fitness and why does it resonate with you?

I found Lagree Fitness by searching “the most effective workouts” on Google. Lagree Method and Motivate Studio was a result and something that I had never heard of before. I was frustrated and tired from trying all kinds of workouts to lose weight – for years without any real results. I took one introductory class from Motivate and was hooked! I love Lagree Fitness and stick with it because I keep seeing results.

How would you describe your teaching style?

I know everyone has different reasons for attending a fitness class. I try to tailor my workouts and teaching style so that everyone feels confident while getting a great workout.

What’s your favorite post-workout nosh?

My favorite post work out nosh is Alimental G's Chocolate Smoothie. There is nothing better or more fulfilling after a great work out than this smoothie. The link to Alimental G's recipe is here!

If you were to give one workout tip to your clients, what would it be?

My best workout advice is “Don’t let your mind get in the way” never overthink exercising.  The mind will always come up with excuses for why you can’t workout or need to stop. Just show up to the studio and get your work out on. Your mind and body will thank you later.

How did you find Lagree fitness and why does it resonate with you?

There's a street by my house that I drive down all the time. But I always drive down it so fast that I never see the shops that are on it. So one day I drove slowly and saw all these machines in a window and thought, what are those???!

With Lagree, the way I talked to myself during class bled out into real life, and I fell in love. If you can do it in class, you can do it in the real world.

How would you describe your teaching style?

Let’s do this!

What’s your favorite post-workout nosh?

Half a frozen banana blended with almond milk and a scoop of mocha Vega protein powder. Super boring but super easy!

If you were to give one workout tip to your clients, what would it be?

Push yourself to failure! Just try that pushup on your toes. Attempt that flying cobra. If you don’t try, how will you ever know? Never be too embarrassed to try - even if it’s just one, you gave it your all until you couldn’t do it anymore. That's success. That’s all you can ask of yourself.

How did you find Lagree Fitness and why does it resonate with you?

When I moved to Los Angeles from Dallas I bounced around ALL of the local studios trying to find the most effective thing! And I mean ALL of them. I was trying to get in shape for my wedding and was also just loving all the different options out here. I'm pretty sure I did every 30 day trial in my area. When I finally got around to trying my first Lagree class - I was so nervous!! I had never been on the machines before and found them pretty intimidating. That first class was such a shock and totally killer to say the least, but I loved the challenge. I knew I had finally found something that was fun, went by quickly, and was going to actually give me results.

How would you describe your teaching style?

Encouraging, but tough! I want everyone to leave feeling accomplished and like they got the MOST out of their time. I also am ALL about working on the core.

reserveage-vanilla-grass-fed-whey-protein-2.jpg

What's your favorite post-workout nosh?

Protein shakes really speed up your results! I always try to have a protein shake within 30 minutes following a tough class. My favorite “go-to" is Reserveage Vanilla Whey Protein Powder, frozen bananas (they make all the difference!), cacao powder, coconut oil, almonds, and almond milk. Literally tastes like a Wendy’s frosty. If you’re into that kind of thing…it’s pretty awesome!

If you were to give one workout tip to your clients, what would it be?

Be kind to yourself, but stick with it!! Everyone has days where they feel stronger than others, but as long as you keep coming and get yourself to class the results will follow! My mom used to always say, “A year from now you will wish you had started a year ago!"
